Official Opening of Áras Uí Mhúineacháin 12.09.2025
The official opening of our extension on Friday September 12th 2025 was a truly memorable and meaningful occasion. The event was a celebration of inclusion, progress and the collective effort of our school community to support every learner.
From the outset, we acknowledged the importance of the day—not just as the unveiling of a new physical space, but as a milestone in our commitment to inclusive education.
Norma Harte, Principal, warmly welcomed the school community, guests, and dignitaries to the official opening of the new special needs extension, Áras Uí Mhúineacháin, marking it as a day of pride, progress, and celebration. The extension, designed to support students with additional learning needs, symbolises the school's deep commitment to inclusion, equality, and holistic education.
Tributes were made to the many individuals and groups who made the project possible — including former Principal Barth Harrington, current and past members of the Board of Management, the Department of Education, staff, parents, Cahalane Bros construction, and especially the students, for whom the space was ultimately created.
We acknowledged the tireless work of Mr. Noel White, Chairperson of the Board of Management, and welcomed key guests including Minister Christopher O’Sullivan, Minister Michael Moynihan, and Mayor Conan O’Donovan, each recognised for their advocacy and support of inclusive education and the local community.
A heartfelt welcome was extended to Ethan Kingston, the first graduate of the new extension, whose presence symbolised the impact of the facility on students' lives. Tribute was also paid to former Boards of Management for their foundational work in the early stages of the project.
The most poignant moment came with the introduction of Ms. Noreen Minihan, former Principal, in whose honour the extension is named. Her legacy of inclusive leadership, compassion, and unwavering support for all students was celebrated, culminating in her formal opening of the extension by unveiling a plaque and cutting the ribbon.
The ceremony also included a student musical performance, showcasing the school’s creative spirit and connection to the wider community.
In closing, Norma Harte emphasised that this day was about more than just opening a building — it was about opening hearts, expanding opportunities, and celebrating a shared vision of a truly inclusive school community.
