Discovering Clonakilty: Second Class History & Maths Trail
2nd class pupils recently stepped beyond the classroom and into the heart of our wonderful town of Clonakilty, where learning came alive through a specially designed History and Maths Trail.
This exciting experience gave pupils the opportunity to discover Clonakilty in a whole new way — exploring familiar streets, uncovering local history, and using maths skills in real-life situations. Along the trail, the children measured, counted, estimated, observed, and questioned, all while learning about the landmarks, stories, and features that make our town so special.
The trail was expertly facilitated by Mr Ciarán Crowley and Ms Karen O’Regan, whose guidance and enthusiasm helped make the day both meaningful and memorable. Adding to the excitement, the pupils were delighted to meet Mayor Conan O’Donovan — a familiar face to many of them as the person who trains them at GAA every Wednesday! This lovely connection helped the children see how community, sport, and civic life are all closely linked and gave them a real sense of pride in their town.
A truly memorable learning opportunity that allowed our Second Class pupils to explore, discover, and appreciate the rich history and everyday maths all around them in Clonakilty.
