π Term 1 Highlights – August to December 2025 π
Term 1 has been a busy, rewarding and enjoyable start to the school year at Scoil na mBuachaillí, Clonakilty, filled with learning, creativity, achievement and community spirit across all class levels.
The school year began positively as pupils settled into new classes and routines. Throughout the term, pupils took part in a wide range of learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom, including library visits, sporting activities and hands-on projects that supported curiosity, teamwork and confidence.
Environmental awareness and real-world science were a strong focus this term through participation in the GLOBE Ireland Air Quality Campaign, where pupils collected and analysed real scientific data. Senior pupils also engaged enthusiastically in the Young Scientist project, showcasing creativity, problem-solving skills and scientific thinking.
Leadership and responsibility were also key themes throughout Term 1. Our School Wardens played an important role in supporting safety and leadership within the school, while the establishment of our Student Council gave pupils a valuable voice in school life and decision-making.
Our pupils excelled in many areas beyond the classroom. Sporting achievements, chess competitions and ongoing weekly awards such as Pen-Man of the Week, Gaeilgeoir na Seachtaine and Gentleman of the Week highlighted effort, respect and pride across the school community.
The Christmas season brought a wonderful sense of joy and togetherness. Junior Infants, Senior Infants, Rang 1 and Rang 7 delighted audiences with festive performances, while pupils from 2nd to 6th Class took part in the much-loved Hosanna Rock in the church, which received very positive feedback from the wider community. Pupils also spread Christmas cheer beyond the school gates through carol singing at the Day Care Centre, Care Choice and Bushmount.
Additional highlights included visits from Santa and Mrs Claus, our Pass on the Kindness initiative, and a beautifully festive school environment created by Christmas lights inside and outside the building, thanks to our caretaker Finbarr and Principal Norma Harte.
Term 1 has been a wonderful reflection of the strong sense of community at Scoil na mBuachaillí. We thank our pupils, staff, Board of Management, Parents’ Association and families for their continued support and partnership.
We look forward to building on this positive start as we move into Term 2.
