SNB Student Council
Big things are happening at SNB—and we’re not just talking about the presidential election! We’re thrilled to announce that we’re launching our very own SNB Student Council, and every student from Rang 1 to Rang 8 has a chance to get involved!
We have come up with an exciting plan that will bring democracy, leadership, creativity—and a lot of fun—into our classrooms. 🗳️🎨💬
👀 What’s the Plan?
Each class will elect one student representative to serve on the Student Council. But this isn’t just about voting—it’s a full campaign experience!
Here’s how it will work:
📝 Step-by-Step Election Process
-
Sign Up to Stand!
-
Pupils can nominate themselves as candidates by signing up in their classroom.
-
-
Top 3 Shortlisted
-
Each class teacher (with a support teacher) selects the top 3 candidates based on their manifestos and passion for the role.
-
-
Campaign Teams Assemble!
-
The rest of the class will be split into mini ‘parties’ to support each of the top 3 candidates.
-
Teams will help their candidate by designing posters, badges, slogans, and more.
-
-
Canvas Your Constituency!
-
Each class is paired with another class—their ‘constituency’—where they’ll campaign and seek support.
-
-
Cast Your Vote!
-
Ballot boxes will be delivered to each constituency classroom for voting.
-
Votes will be counted by teachers—no hanging chads here!
-
-
The Big Reveal
-
The winning candidates—our new Student Council—will be announced after Mid Term Break!
-
There was great excitement in Scoil na mBuachaillí on Friday October 17th as pupils took part in the first stage of this year’s Student Council Elections!
By the end of the day, each class had chosen their candidates to run for election, following lively presentations where pupils shared their manifestos and ideas for making our school an even better place.
The selection process involved three steps:
-
🟡 One Golden Ticket candidate was chosen by the class teacher.
-
🟢 Golden Ticket candidates were chosen by another staff member — such as the Principal, Support Teacher, SNA, Secretary, or Caretaker.
-
🔵 Golden Ticket candidate was selected by the class through a secret ballot.
Once chosen, the three candidates in each class formed their own campaign teams, dividing up classmates into “parties” to help design badges, posters, and campaign messages — and even add new ideas to their manifestos. Each group came up with a creative party name and got busy preparing for the big election day! 🎉
The Student Council Election will take place on Wednesday, 22nd October, with paired voting between classes using real ballot boxes and ballot papers to make the experience both fun and fair.
A huge thank you to the staff involved — Niamh Mac Auley, Ciaran Crowley, Laura Connolly — and to the Student Electoral Committee for their support in organising and overseeing the elections.
Well done to all our pupils for showing such enthusiasm, teamwork, and leadership throughout the process. We can’t wait to see who will be representing their classmates on the 2025 Student Council! 👏🗳️
