Seachtain na Gaeilge i Scoil na mBuachaillí

6th Mar 2026

We are looking forward to celebrating Seachtain na Gaeilge in Scoil na mBuachaillí over the coming weeks — a wonderful opportunity for our school community to celebrate our language, culture and traditions.

Throughout the fortnight, pupils will be encouraged to use more Gaeilge in the classroom, around the school and even out in the community. Our Gaeilge Committee will be out in the yard encouraging the boys to try a cúpla focal, rewarding their efforts with Gaeilge stickers and helping to build confidence in speaking Irish.

One of the highlights will be our SNB Gaeilge Challenge. Each pupil will bring home a Gaeilge sticker and try to ask a simple question in Irish to a family member or someone in the community. If the person replies in Irish, they earn a sticker too! We would love to see photos of these moments and share them with our school community.

We are also delighted to welcome back Bainne Úr, who will visit the school on Thursday 12th March, giving pupils the chance to enjoy this delicious local treat.

The celebrations will culminate in our annual Féile le Chéile, when the whole school gathers in the yard for music, dancing, Irish culture and plenty of fun. Highlights will include:

  • 🎶 Irish music and dancing together

  • 🧁 The famous “Borróga Bonanza” baking competition

  • 🥪 An Bricfeasta Mór — our much-loved Big Breakfast for classes who have used the most Gaeilge during the week

  • 🏅 Blás na nDaltaí certificate presentations

  • 🍰 A sweet treat for everyone to finish the celebration

An Bricfeasta Mór is kindly sponsored each year by SuperValu Clonakilty, whose continued support helps make this special celebration possible.

Seachtain na Gaeilge is always a highlight of the school year — a time when we celebrate our language, our culture and the joy of learning together.

Gach duine ag obair le chéile chun Gaeilge agus ár gcultúr a cheiliúradh!
Everyone working together to celebrate our language and culture.
