♟️ Online Chess Success! ♟️
Congratulations to our 4th, 5th, and 6th class pupils who participated in this year’s Schools Online Chess Tournament! Combining in-school and at-home sessions, the tournament provided a fantastic opportunity for pupils to develop strategic thinking, focus, and problem-solving skills while enjoying friendly competition on Lichess, a free, ad-free, open-source platform offering puzzles, tournaments, and computer analysis.
At school, pupils had access to a fully stocked computer room, numerous physical chessboards in our custom-built chess trolley, and a giant outdoor chessboard in the playground, supporting their practice and enthusiasm.
After more than 30 years in SNB, our chess club is as strong as ever! This year, our pupils also proudly joined Ficheall in their bid to break the Irish record for the most children playing chess simultaneously.
The final session took place on Lá Fichille, a day celebrating chess across schools in Ireland, where pupils from around the country come together to test their skills and enjoy friendly competition.
We thank Ms Niamh Mac Auley for her leadership, Ms Laura Connolly and Mr Ciarán Crowley for their support, and parents and guardians for facilitating home participation. We are incredibly proud of all pupils for their dedication, enthusiasm, and the skills they developed through this tournament.
