Green Schools Day of Action
Supporting Our Application for Our 8th Green Flag – Global Citizenship: Marine Environment
We recently held a very successful Green Schools Day of Action as part of our application for our 8th Green Flag, focusing on the theme of Global Citizenship – Marine Environment.
This maintenance theme enables schools to reflect on how our Green Schools work has positively influenced environments worldwide, while placing a particular emphasis on the protection of our oceans and seas. It encourages our pupils to think globally, act responsibly, and recognise the far-reaching impact of their everyday actions.
Our Day of Action was both educational and enjoyable. It included Day 2 of our Oceans of Discovery Workshop, where pupils continued their hands-on exploration of Ireland’s marine life and deepened their understanding of ocean biodiversity, conservation, and sustainability.
To mark the occasion, staff and students dressed in blue with a marine theme, creating a wonderful sense of unity and shared purpose throughout the school.
The day also gave us an opportunity to revisit and celebrate the tremendous work already undertaken in the areas of:
-
Litter & Waste
-
Energy
-
Water
-
Travel
-
Biodiversity
-
Global Citizenship
Classroom competitions further reinforced key environmental messages and encouraged creativity, teamwork, and environmental awareness across all class levels.
Our Green Schools Day of Action was a powerful reminder that protecting our marine environment begins with the small, positive actions we take every day. We are extremely proud of the commitment shown by our pupils, staff, and Green Schools Committee as we work towards achieving our 8th Green Flag.
Together, we continue to learn, lead, and make a difference — locally and globally. 🌍🌊
