πβ¨ Exciting News: Our School Has Been Selected for the Every Child A Reader Project! β¨π
We are absolutely delighted to announce that our school has been chosen to take part in Children’s Books Ireland’s prestigious Every Child A Reader programme! This is an incredible opportunity that will help us continue building a strong, joyful, and inclusive reading culture throughout our school community.
As part of this project, our school will receive a library of 250 high-quality, diverse books, carefully selected to engage readers of all ages and interests. These books will allow our pupils to see themselves reflected in stories, while also opening windows into different cultures, perspectives, and worlds.
π What This Programme Brings to Our School
Through Every Child A Reader, our school will enjoy:
β¨ A brand new library launch filled with 250 exceptional books
β¨ Posters, bunting, bookmarks, and stickers to create reading excitement
β¨ Fun, school-wide book activities and projects
β¨ Opportunities for pupils to help choose additional new books
β¨ Training, resource packs, reading guides, and themed reading lists for teachers
β¨ Support for families to build reading-for-pleasure habits at home
β¨ Participation in an impact survey to help shape future school book-gifting
π Our Champion of Reading
We are thrilled that our school will also be paired with its very own Champion of Reading — an author, illustrator, or storyteller who will work directly with our students through inspiring workshops that spark imagination, creativity, and a love of reading. This year, our Champion of Reading will be E.R. Murray, an acclaimed Irish author whose visits will bring stories to life and encourage our pupils to explore and enjoy their new library.
π Why Reading Matters
Children’s Books Ireland reminds us of the transformative power of books:
“Reading is freedom… it opens the world up to be explored and introduces important ideas: equality, justice, kindness, empathy… There is power in a book.”
— Elaina Ryan, CEO of Children’s Books Ireland
Books help children and young people understand the world, build empathy, feel seen, and explore safely. This programme ensures that every pupil can experience that power.
β€οΈ A Special Thank You
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Carol O’Boyle, whose successful application to the Children’s Books Ireland Book-Gifting programmes has brought this incredible opportunity — as well as our Free to Be Me Little Library — to our school. Her dedication ensures that our pupils have access to rich, meaningful, and inspiring reading experiences.
