๐ŸŒ Climate Action Week 2025 at Scoil na mBuachaillรญ ๐ŸŒฑ

18th Oct 2025

Behavioural change and climate action are a fundamental part of our lives — 365 days of the year!
But for one special week in October, we switched the focus from fundamental to fun!

Last week, Scoil na mBuachaillí was proud to take part in Climate Action Week 2025, coordinated by An Taisce on behalf of the Department of Climate, Energy and Environment.
Since 2017, schools across Ireland have come together during this week to celebrate action for our planet — and we were delighted to be part of it once again.

Throughout the week, our pupils took part in a wide range of activities designed to raise awareness, encourage sustainability, and make a real difference in our community.

๐ŸŒฟ Here’s what happened in Scoil na mBuachaillí:

๐Ÿ”‹ Battery Recycling Drive – pupils and staff helped reduce waste and protect the environment by collecting used batteries for recycling.

๐ŸŒณ Tree Planting – we planted native Irish trees, including Scots Pine, to support biodiversity and create a greener school environment.

๐ŸŒก๏ธ GLOBE Ireland Citizen Science Projects – classes participated in Climate Resilience (Temperature and Trees) and the Air Quality Project, discovering how science helps us understand and protect our planet.

โ™ป๏ธ Green Schools Committee Focus – everyone was reminded to keep up great habits with recycling and proper bin use around the school.

๐Ÿšด‍โ™‚๏ธ Cycle to School – with fine weather on our side, many pupils chose to cycle to school and make use of our fabulous bike shed while reducing their carbon footprint!

๐Ÿงค Daily Litter Wardens – pupils took turns keeping our school grounds spotless and litter-free each day.

๐Ÿงบ Picker Pals Programme – our younger pupils enjoyed this hands-on initiative, learning about caring for their local environment.

๐ŸŒŠ Clean Coasts Participants – classes explored ways to protect Ireland’s coastline and waterways as part of the national Clean Coasts movement.

๐Ÿš Sea Keepers Project – pupils investigated Ireland’s marine life and discussed how we can safeguard our ocean biodiversity.

๐Ÿ’š Rang 7 also took part in Ireland’s Deposit Return Scheme (Re-turn), highlighting the value of the Re-turn scheme and promoting awareness of how small actions can make a big environmental impact

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Concern Debating Programme – our debating teams focused on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), sharing inspiring ideas for a fairer, greener world.

๐ŸŒ Global Classrooms Initiative – pupils connected their learning to global citizenship, understanding how local actions contribute to global impact.

๐ŸŒผ Gardening, Composting, Leaf Mould and the Wormery – pupils got their hands dirty learning how composting and biodiversity work together to make our school garden thrive sustainably.

Climate Action Week was a wonderful opportunity for our school community to celebrate the positive steps we can all take — big and small — to care for our planet every day.

Let’s keep making change happen — not just during Climate Action Week, but all year round! ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒŽ
