♟️ Online Chess Success! ♟️
Huge congratulations to our amazing 4th, 5th and 6th class pupils who took part in this year’s Schools Online Chess Tournament! The event combined both in-school and at-home sessions and gave pupils a brilliant opportunity to develop strategic thinking, focus and problem-solving skills — all while enjoying friendly competition on Lichess. 💻♟️
🔎 Lichess is a free, open-source, ad-free platform where players can enjoy puzzles, tournaments, computer analysis and lots more — all funded by donations! 🙌
At school, pupils had fantastic resources to support them, including our fully stocked computer room, lots of physical chessboards in our custom-built chess trolley, and even our giant outdoor chessboard in the playground! 🖥️🧩🌳
After 30+ years in SNB, our chess club is as strong as ever! 🎉 👏
✨🇮🇪 The final session of the tournament took place on Lá Fichille, a special day celebrating chess across schools in Ireland. On this day, pupils from around the country come together to enjoy the game, test their skills and take part in friendly competition. It’s a fantastic way to promote strategic thinking and the joy of chess! 🏆♟️
The tournament sessions took place on:
📅 12th November
📅 19th November
📅 26th November – Lá Fichille
A massive thank you to:
👏 Ms Niamh Mac Auley for her incredible leadership
👏 Ms Laura Connolly and Mr Ciarán Crowley for their support in school
👏 Parents and guardians for facilitating home participation
We are so proud of all pupils for their dedication, enthusiasm and the wonderful skills they developed along the way. 🌟♟️
😊We are so proud of Ms O'Regan👏

📚✨ Wonderful News for Our School Community! ✨📚
We are thrilled to announce that our school has been selected to take part in *Children’s Books Ireland’s Every Child A Reader project! 🎉
As part of this exciting programme, our school will receive a brand-new library of 250 high-quality, diverse books, along with posters, bookmarks, bunting and lots of fun reading activities to help build a strong, joyful reading culture throughout the school.
We are also delighted to share that author E.R. Murray will be joining us as our Champion of Reading! Over a series of workshops, she will inspire creativity, confidence and a love of books among our pupils. 🌈📖
This project helps ensure that every child can see themselves reflected in stories, while also opening windows to different cultures, worlds and perspectives. It supports teachers, engages families, and brings reading to life in exciting new ways.
A very special thank you to Ms. Carol O’Boyle, whose successful application to the Children’s Books Ireland Book-Gifting programmes has made this incredible opportunity possible. Through her work, we have also received a Free To Be Me Little Library containing 190 beautifully curated books celebrating identity, inclusion and empathy. 💛🌟
We can’t wait to launch our new library, welcome E.R. Murray to our school, and begin this fantastic reading journey together. Stay tuned for updates! 📚✨
