Rang 7 had a fantastic trip to Leahys Open Farm last week! 🚜☀️ The children had a wonderful day exploring the farm, meeting the animals 🐐🐓, and enjoying all the activities on offer 🎠. It was a great opportunity for learning 📚, fun 😄, and making lovely memories together 💚. A very special thank you to Garda Lane 👮‍♂️ for kindly taking the children on the Community Bus 🚌 – your support is greatly appreciated and helped make the day possible 🙏. A sincere thank you also to Rebecca Hourihane, Claire Kavanagh, and Eilish McSweeney for organising and accompanying the class on this trip 👏. Your time, care, and effort are very much appreciated 🌟.
We were absolutely delighted to welcome Hank back to Scoil na mBuachaillí for a very special visit last Friday 😊✨ Following his own request to come back and visit us, Hank called back in for a flying visit — and what a day he had! 😄 He got to take part in a spelling test ✏️, join in with our Global Classrooms work building prototypes 🌍🛠️, and even finished up with a stint on Warden Duty!! 🚸👏 We are always honoured when our past pupils love to return and reconnect with our school community 💙🏫, and Hank’s visit meant so much to us all. Hank joined our 5th Class in January 2025, having moved all the way from America 🇺🇸✈️, and from the very beginning he made a lasting impression on everyone here. During his time with us, he became a much-loved member of our school community, bringing great energy ⚡, kindness 💛 and friendship 🤝 to his class. Although Hank and his family moved to Kerry in November 2025, it was clear to see that his connection to SNB remains strong — he arrived with a huge smile 😁 and left us with full hearts ❤️ Thank you, Hank, for calling in to see us — you will always be part of the SNB family 💙🎉 Our loss is your Lauragh National School gain!
🌦️ EXCITING NEWS FOR OUR SCHOOL & COMMUNITY! 🌦️ We are absolutely delighted to announce that our new school weather station is now LIVE at Scoil na mBuachaillí, Clonakilty! This fantastic project has been made possible thanks to the incredible generosity of our local sponsors 🙌 👏 West Cork Irish Whiskey sponsored the weather station along with all mounting materials 👏 Clonakilty & Dunmanway Credit Union funded the display screen in our school reception This is a wonderful addition for our local community. Not only does it support hands-on STEM learning in our school, but it also provides accurate, real-time local weather data that can be used by families, farmers, walkers, sports clubs and anyone planning their day. It’s a great way to stay connected to what’s happening right here in Clonakilty! For our pupils, the benefits are huge 🙌 They can now work with real, live data to explore weather patterns, track changes over time, and develop key skills in maths, science, data handling and critical thinking. It brings lessons to life, encourages curiosity, and allows students to carry out their own investigations using real-world information. 🌐 You can check in on the data anytime on our school website 📱 For the full experience, download the WeatherLink app, sign up once, and add SNBClonakilty to unlock all available data anytime, anywhere 🔧 A special thank you to our caretaker Finbarr O’Connor for mounting the station. This is a brilliant example of community support making a real difference in education — we are hugely grateful! Check it out and watch the weather as it happens 🌬️🌧️🌡️ #Community #STEM #Clonakilty #ThankYou #RealLearning Clonakilty Tidy Towns Clonakilty Notice Board I Love Clonakilty
✨ Junior Infants Weekly Highlights ✨ Junior Infants had a fantastic and action-packed week! The classroom was full of excitement as the children explored their Gaeilge topic “An Siopa Milseáin” 🍬 They took on the roles of shopkeepers and customers, using their cúpla focal to buy and sell sweet treats. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow through such fun and imaginative role play. In Maths, the children have been working hard on addition. This week, they used their IT skills to reinforce their learning 💻 Their enthusiasm and independence really shone through. The class also made the most of the glorious sunshine 🌞 From energetic PE sessions practising ball skills, to outdoor playtime and a special trip to the playground, there were smiles all around. A week full of learning, laughter, and lovely memories — well done Junior Infants 👏💫 #JuniorInfants #ActiveLearning #Gaeilge #MathsFun #SunnyDays
🥳After great success at the Féile Fichille, in January, three SNB teams travelled to Bantry today to take part in the Comórtas Fichille—a team chess tournament where the top three teams are awarded medals after a series of rounds. The day celebrates excellence in chess, sportsmanship, and teamwork, recognising those who performed strongly at the Féile. At the event held at the Maritime Hotel in Bantry today, SNB celebrated fantastic team success, bringing home: * 🥇 1st place for the SNB Ants * 🥉 3rd place for the SNB Bats * 🎖️ 5th place for the SNB Cats A special mention goes to Jack Rea, who won all six of his matches on the day. A sincere thank you to our chess coordinator, Ms Niamh MacAuley, and to teachers Ms Laura Connolly and Mr Ciarán Crowley for training and supporting the after-school chess teams. A fantastic time was had by all ♟️
Today, on World Earth Day 🌍, we celebrate the many ways our school community cares for the environment in our everyday lives. Across all classes, pupils are actively involved in learning about sustainability and putting it into practice — from reducing waste ♻️, recycling, and reusing materials, to conserving energy ⚡ and water 💧 throughout the school day. Our students also explore the natural world through outdoor learning 🌿, gardening 🌱, and observing seasonal changes 🍃, helping them to develop a deeper appreciation for nature. Through projects, discussions, and simple daily habits, they are encouraged to think about how their actions impact the planet and how they can make positive choices. By working together and supporting one another, we are building a culture of environmental awareness and responsibility in our school 🤝. Today reminds us that caring for the Earth is something we can all contribute to — not just on one day, but every day 💚🌎.
🌿 National Spring Clean 2026 🌿 Our pupils recently rolled up their sleeves and took part in the National Spring Clean, showing fantastic pride in their local environment. Armed with gloves and litter pickers, they headed out around our community to collect litter and make a real difference. It was great to see such teamwork and enthusiasm from all involved! As well as helping to keep our area clean, pupils learned about the importance of looking after our environment and how small actions can make a big impact. We are very proud of their efforts—well done everyone! 👏 #NationalSpringClean #ProudSchool #CommunitySpirit An Taisce - National Spring Clean Clonakilty Tidy Towns
First proper Monday of sunshine in Clonakilty and the school is in full bloom 🌞🌸🌿 Tulips are stealing the spotlight 🌷, red and pink and full of attitude, bluebells are quietly nodding along 💙, violas are bringing the purple punch 💜, and the broom is blazing in yellow and orange like it owns the place 🌼🔥 Even the young pea plants are making their debut 🌱 We’re lucky to be blessed with a site full of nature 🌍, and you can see the wonderful trees in our grounds awakening all around us 🌳✨ A small nod to Earth Day on April 22nd that when we look after our little patch, it really does give something back 🌎💚 Now if we could just add “guaranteed sunshine” to the timetable… ☀️😉 #ClonakiltyInBloom #EarthDay #SchoolGardenGoals Green-Schools Clonakilty Notice Board I Love Clonakilty
